welcome to our website

St Bartholomew the Great is the oldest church in London, founded in 1123 as an Augustinian monastery. Now a parish church, it is home to a thriving congregation as well as being a destination for visitors from all over the world, and is used extensively by film and TV companies.
St Bartholomew the Less was also founded in 1123 as Chapel of the Holy Cross, and moved to its present site inside the hospital gates in 1184. It was called the Less to distinguish it from its larger neighbour.

Whatever your reason for visiting us, you are most welcome here. Whether it is to do with prayer, participation in the sacraments, or any other spiritual need, or you like to look around ancient buildings, find our history intriguing, want to see where so many major films and TV programmes have been shot, or have any other interest, we want you to feel completely at home with us. For those who come to partake of the sacrament, all are welcome to receive it, irrespective of the rules laid down by other parts of the Christian Church.
We are an inclusive church. There is no discrimination here on the basis of gender, disability, race, age, sexual orientation or social class.
