Access to the Church once you arrive
There are three main ways into the church:
- The only way with step-free access is along the path from the West Smithfield square underneath the Elizabethan Gatehouse. There are only very minor changes in level on the way into the church this way.
- The path through the Churchyard from Cloth Fair has a significant step up into the churchyard from Cloth Fair and a further small step up beyond that within the Churchyard itself. There is then a set of relatively steep steps down into the pathway from West Smithfield square. Please note, these steps do not have a handrail. The path through the Churchyard is therefore not suitable for anybody who would find any of these steps difficult to manage.
- On some occasions, we open the doors of the North Porch of the church. These also provide access from Cloth Fair. However, immediately behind the doors are some very steep steps down to the floor level of the church (which is at the medieval level, quite a way below that of modern Cloth Fair). There are, however, handrails on these steps. Nevertheless, this access route would not be suitable for anybody who might have difficulties with steep steps.
