£12,000 of work on the church drains has just been completed.  In recent years we have made a great deal of progress in getting water off the roof and down the pipes, rather than down the walls.  The biggest problem was at ground level.  With the church levels six, seven or more feet below those of the surrounding streets, drainage has been a major problem.  Certain parts of the interior stonework, especially on the north side, have in consequence become damp.  Now, following an earlier CCTV survey, most of our drains have been re-made or rodded out and new inspection chambers have been created.  The photograph shows supervising architect Eric Watts checking out the new ladder in the Bartholomew Close inspection chamber
